August 15, 2018 — IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries®, in conjunction with SMTA Tabletop Exhibition 2018, conducted an IPC Hand Soldering Competition in Penang on August 14 - 15, 2018. The competition got “heated” as 37 competitors from 12 well-known electronics companies and six institutes in Malaysia competed at IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at SMTA Tabletop Exhibition 2018 in Penang, Malaysia. For this year in the IPC Hand Soldering Competition Malaysia, the top two winners came from the same company, Affinex Innovation Sdn. Bhd. Taking first place with a cash prize of $300 and winning a JBC soldering station was Wan Foong Yee, Affinex Innovation Sdn. Bhd. As the winner, Wan Foong Yee qualified for the IPC Hand Soldering World Championship at IPC APEX EXPO 2019, San Diego, in January 2019.
Second place and a cash prize of $200 this year went to Noryati Binti Mat Nor, Affinex Innovation Sdn. Bhd. And Aizal Fahmi Hassan from Paramit Malaysia SDN Bhd, took third place and a cash prize of $100.
Participants in the hand soldering competition were tasked with reworking a functional electronics assembly within a 45-minute time limit. A panel of independent judges evaluated each assembly based on workmanship, overall functionality, compliance with IPC-A-610G, IPC J-STD-001G, IPC-7711/21C - Class 3 criteria and speed of completion.
