October 15, 2018 — IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries®, in conjunction with NEPCON Vietnam 2018, conducted an IPC Hand Soldering Competition in Ho Chi Minh City on October 11 - 13, 2018. The competition got “heated” as 51 competitors from 21 well-known electronics companies in Vietnam competed at IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at NEPCON Vietnam 2018 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Taking first place with a cash prize of $300 and winning a JBC soldering station was Mr. Lê Văn Linh, Sparton Viet Nam. As the winner, Mr. Lê Văn Linh qualified for the IPC Hand Soldering World Championship at IPC APEX EXPO 2019, San Diego, in January 2019.
Second place and a cash prize of $200 this year went to Mr. Huỳnh Minh Thiện, CEI International Investments (VN). Ms. Đoàn Thị Phương, UMC Electronics Viet Nam Co., Ltd took third place and a cash prize of $100.
Participants in the hand soldering competition were tasked with building a functional electronics assembly within a 50-minute time limit. A panel of independent judges evaluated each assembly based on workmanship, overall functionality, compliance with IPC-A-610G Class 3 criteria and speed of completion.
